Jamie Redknapp believes Newcastle have been massively unlucky to not be awarded a penalty within the first half of their conflict with Manchester City.

Rangers striker Jermain Defoe agreed with Redknapp that it was the unsuitable choice.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Defoe mentioned: ‘The goalkeeper’s come out and he is realised that he isn’t going to get the ball. If that is exterior the field it is a foul. Of course it is a penalty.’ 

Newcastle have been trailing 2-0 when the incident occurred, with Ruben Dias and Joao Cancelo having scored for City.

Understandably, loads of Newcastle supporters have been furious with the choice, together with legendary former striker Alan Shearer.

Shearer wrote on Twitter: ‘Any hazard VAR or ref. Pen all day.’

 One supporter wrote: ‘Mad agenda in opposition to us’.
