Demna Gvasalia has fallen into the Gap.
According to a launch from the model, Ye (the artist previously generally known as Kanye West) has recruited his designer pal Demna (the artist previously generally known as Demna Gvasalia) to work with him on his ongoing collaboration on the mall retailer, for a mission dubbed, “Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga.”
“This first of its type launch sees Ye’s peerless imaginative and prescient carry collectively probably the most influential designer of his technology, Demna, with iconic American model, Gap,” reads the discharge.
If you are questioning what, precisely, “Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga” means, properly… us too. It’s not fairly Balenciaga for Gap, so do not get too excited on the concept of scoring the French model at American mall costs. But contemplating Demna is already a heavy affect on Ye’s design throughout the board, one imagines there will likely be parts of his signatures blended in with the Yeezy Gap types we have seen launched to this point. (As a reminder, Ye signed a 10-year deal with the corporate.)
Demna has had his arms in Ye’s world for fairly a while now. The designer oversaw the creative direction for the artist’s listening sessions for “Donda,” from the staging to the livestream, and, naturally, the merch. His Balenciaga has been massive for Ye’s ex Kim Kardashian in her newest type evolution, sporting an instantly-meme-able head-to-toe, face-covering black quantity he created at this 12 months’s Met Gala.
“Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga” will likely be out there a while in 2022, “alongside different Yeezy Gap releases,” so keep tuned to see what Demna has in thoughts. (If he is taking requests, that Balenciaga episode of “The Simpsons” has us placing a Demna-directed tackle traditional Gap adverts on our want checklist.)
