Man with gun prompts police response outside United Nations in Manhattan: police

MANHATTAN – An armed man surrendered to police after pacing in entrance of the United Nations for hours, prompting a big NYPD response and big site visitors delays in Midtown, video of the scene Thursday confirmed.

Police autos and officers descended on the streets surrounding East forty second Street and First Avenue, outside the UN. The state of affairs was first reported round 11 a.m.

During the hourslong ordeal, the person donning a purple sweater was seen appearing erratically, pacing in entrance of the constructing the place a row of nationwide flags are seen, and holding the gun to his chest as he pointed the barrel up towards his head.

The man put down the gun and threw his arms up in give up round 1:45 p.m., video confirmed.

Police then escorted the person away, and NYPD press officials tweeted that there was not any risk to the general public.

During the standoff, UN workers have been informed to shelter in place, in line with a journalist who works for the United Nations.
